Heard the Good News?

Good News = Gospel

I know what you’re thinking. “Good news” automatically makes you think that you just won some money or that a new season of your favorite Netflix show is now airing. Or if you’re anything like me, “Good news” makes you think of getting off the hook from work or school for the day. While all of that is sensational, the news I bring is far better than you could imagine. How? Let’s just say that I know a way to get “off the hook” from a punishment you and I both deserve. Stay with me now.

You see, as humans we are created in the image of God. You may have heard of a couple of old people named Adam & Eve. If you haven’t, I’lll make a long-story short. According to the book of Genesis, Adam & Eve were the first two humans created. Adam was made from the dust of the earth and Eve was made from one of Adam’s ribs (Crazy right?). They lived in a beautiful place called the Garden of Eden where they had everything they could ever need or desire (Food, plants, animals, etc.). The only rule they had was to avoid eating from the tree of knowledge of good & evil.

One day a talking snake (Satan) came to Eve and deceived her. How? By tricking her into thinking that if they ate from this forbidden tree, they could become like God. Insinuating that God was “gatekeeping” power to keep Adam and Eve inferior. Eve ended up eating from the tree and gave some fruit to her husband Adam who also ate. They then hid from God because they saw that they were naked and felt ashamed. God cursed them as punishment for being disobedient and now every human from that day forth is born into sin.

Since all we all fall short of God’s standard (Romans 3:23), we need someone who is able to pay our debt (of sin) for us. “But what is the price of sin?” The answer is found in Romans 6:23 which says “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Thank God for sending his only begotten son Jesus Christ (who lived a perfect life) to die a horrible death on a cross to pay off those sins of ours. Although, the story doesn’t end there. After 3 days, Jesus Christ rose from the dead and fulfilled the prophecy of the Messiah coming to save the world. “But what do I have to do to make sure I receive this debt-free offer?” All you need to do is confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and truly believe that God raised him from the dead. Once you do this you are now saved and possess a free ticket to spend eternity with your creator in heaven.
