Serving God or someone else?

“Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the people were completely silent.” ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭18‬:‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Ever heard of the prophet Elijah? He was a mighty man of God. The Lord used him to raise a little boy from the dead.

He also made a sacrifice while the Baalim worshippers made their own (kind of like a contest to see whose Lord would answer first).

And he mocked them because they were willing to put the one true God to the test.

God of course ended up sending down fire upon Elijah’s sacrifice in front of the false god worshippers.

Once that fire came down, they had no other words to say except “The Lord, he is the God!” (1 Kings 18:39)

How many times in your life have you had to get a reality check from God because you were slowly drifting away from him and nearly forgot who he was?

And I’m not saying you were ever serving a different God (or maybe you were and no judgement), but maybe you were idolizing a person in your life.

Maybe a significant other or a friend. Maybe you’ve idolized social media or even your phone itself.

I can say I’ve been there for sure. And any time I have done that, I slowly begin to find difficulty in hearing from God.

It makes it feel as if he isn’t there. The good thing to know is we do not need to rely on our feelings.

The word of God mentions that he will never leave us or forsake us. If we want to keep an intimate relationship with him, we must make him priority in our lives at all times.

The weight of the world is heavy and even prophet Elijah felt that way as he struggled with mental health.

The best formula for life is to focus on God and his righteousness. When times are good. And especially when everything feels like garbage.

Only the Lord our God can get you out of a critical situation.

No other person, job, business, car, tv show, substance or material item will do it for you.
